Professor Karen Pine is a renowned researcher in developmental psychology. She has a first class honours degree in Psychology and a PhD in children's learning and is currently Professor of Developmental Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire. Professor Pine's work has been published extensively in international journals and presented at conferences worldwide. She has carried out pioneering work into children's thinking, learning and understanding, and the effects of advertising on children. Her research also covers non-verbal communication and body image
Women's issues have always been at the heart of Professor Pine's interests, and body image in particular. Her research found that girls as young as nine were starting to diet and she became alarmed about the negative effects of dieting on women. A recognition that FIT Science could enable women to take charge of their lives led to research collaboration with Professor Ben (C) Fletcher and, ultimately, to The No Diet Diet: Do Something Different programme.
